From the very beginning of the Church, Christians have gathered together to hear the word of God.  Since then, individuals have been entrusted with the task of proclaiming the word. Today, the Church carries on that tradition with the ministry of the Lector. Lectors make public proclamations of God's Word during the Mass. They prepare and proclaim the readings for the Liturgy of the Word, and read the Prayers of the Faithful.
